‘Nature-inspired art installation by the talented Andrea Tyrimos, promoting cleaner air and greenery in the city. More please!’Time Out London

‘The red phone box, a British icon, stages a comeback’The New York Times

‘Have you seen this blossoming phone box in Bloomsbury?’Londonist

Livingbox

A collaboration with social enterprise Public Space Jam, Tyrimos transformed a disused London telephone box into a permanent environmental art installation. She painted the phone box to highlight the need for cleaner air and more greenery in London.

Featured in the New York Times, Time Out London, Evening Standard and more, only traditional oils and brushes were used to create this innovative contemporary art installation.

The plants appear as though they are creeping over the box in a post-apocalyptic, yet beautiful way, while exotic plants and flowers occupy the bottom half; relating to the artist’s travels to the Borneo and Maui rainforests. The painted reeds reference the River Fleet which used to run through Holborn. With all of her public pieces, Andrea feels it's important to hint at the history of the environment. She encourages the public to interact with and peer into the box, and to gaze at the exact constellation of stars painted within, that would be visible from London if the air was cleaner. A beautiful opportunity to stargaze in central London...

'Livingbox', can be found outside No.79 Southampton Row, London.
